I am crocheting on and the Why-Not blanket is growing. School holidays always slows my crafting down. I think it may be because I read a lot of blogs who talk positively about ‘living in the moment’ and ‘don’t miss a thing- be present’ but I really think its because I am refereeing endless bickering and feeding hungry children constantly!

I have mastered the Japanese pattern and every one now has 6 sides (see previous post) but the wool drawer doesn’t seem to be diminishing !

Thankyou for all your kind comments on the Jan Eaton Blanket. It was a great project to learn some new stitches!

Because I don’t have enough unfinished projects wallowing around the house….I have decided on a new blanket! And WHY NOT? I promised myself that I would only use wool in my stash but unfortunately that didn’t work out…..! I had seen a Japanese crochet book on Attic24 and was curious but I really didn’t fall for the flower scarf that she and many others began crocheting but on Pomadour24 ( the Etsy seller who sells these books) I spotted another beauty and ordered it. I have no idea what the title of the book is as every word is in Japanese! This did not deter me….however I should have been more wary! This is the book cover…

Here is a pic that I sent my Mum, who lives on the other side of the world, of my first square with the book open on the blanket….

And a closer look….

And my Mum oohed and aahed and said all the right encouraging things but failed to notice that my little square only had 5 sides whereas the one in the book had 6!

I hate redoing things! Hate, hate, hate but not even I can ‘fudge’ a 5 sided block into a 6 sided one! So I have spent yesterday with my head down just catching up on my mistake. I put my head down and gritted my teeth because it felt like such a waste of time! But its done…I am back to square 1 and even a few forward…

Pile on the right – 5 sided. Pile on the left- 6 sided!

And this is my drawer in my lounge where I have sorted the wool for this project. A few from stash but other colours of Biggans Merino 8-ply from Tangled Yarns in Brisbane. The colour range is so good!

I am trying to follow the colours in the book. I just feel like a mindless copy at the moment. I find random colour choosing stressful! Mine never seem random enough. Stupid I know.

Anyway, heres to the WHY NOT blanket!

The latest blanket is complete….

Pattern:-Every square different and each one taken from the book 200 Blocks by Jan Eaton. Joined together on a wish-and-a-prayer and edged using Attic24 edging.

Yarn:- the cheap stuff from Spotlight (surprisingly soft and nice feeling)

Duration:- started Sept 2010, finished finally June 2011.

Enjoyment Factor:-This project was very enjoyable as each square required learning something new and thinking and following new insructions. It was a good learning curve for me who is used to just doing grannies.

And this was a planning picture…

And the weather has turned just in time for everyone to cuddle under this new blanket…

To polish or not?

I moved to Australia 18 months ago from South Africa. Back in South Africa I had domestic help (sigh) and dirty washing miraculously appeared clean and ironed in cupboards and silver got polished. I have to question my own good sense when I packed silver pieces into boxes and shipped them across an ocean. What was I thinking? Am I ever going to polish silver……no! Do I have something better to do…..YES!

So, what to do with the pieces of silver…..

Ta Da

There we go, placed outside, to tarnish elegantly and look stylish. However, no-one kills a pot plant quicker than me! Hence the choice of succulents which are hopefully hardy and me-proof. Here’s proof….if I turn my camera to the right….

Oh dear

My herb garden…and a closer look

Dead pansies

more dead from neglect

And if I turn the camera a little more….

Dead conifers

The upside of the above pic is the clearly thriving succulents!!

So here’s wishing these beauties all the best
