Beautiful Ugly….

Its time for my monthly blog circle and the theme this month was ‘Beautiful Ugly’……..hmm.

I had some ideas that didnt pan out and in the end I only got one photo that I thought showed beauty in something that is considered ugly, namely a common-old weed.

Don’t forget to click over to Nicoles’ blog and see how she has interpreted this months’ theme….

DAY 114

Anzac Day service at my boys school….its a special holiday where we remember Australian and New Zealand men and women who have died in service, fighting for their country. The school Captain read the name of each past student who died in wars and a white wooden cross was placed in the grass in front of the chapel. If you look closely you can see 133 crosses in the grass. Its such a moving service and I shed a tear every year…

Catch-up Post

Well I am obviously back from Japan and have been playing catch-up…mainly with glamorous stuff like laundry, grocery shopping, laundry, getting the kids back to school and laundry.

For family members that are interested….I am ploughing through the billions of photos I took from our holiday to Japan and will do a blog post to share some photos too….

I am keeping up with my photo-a-day and am really trying to do a 365 this year. As this blog is where I document this project I am going to do a big catch-up post so you can click away if it bores you to tears….

DAY 86

During the last week of school term, my children are allowed ‘treat’ breakfasts and this is the youngests’ choice….

0U2A8998w

DAY 87

The middle child in his room…

DAY 88

We arrived in Tokyo at 11pm at night and this was the street where our hotel was and BEHOLD the cherry blossoms were still out! I cant tell you my excitement…. these cherry blossoms last for about 10 days once a yeaar and I had timed it to perfection….bucket list item ticked off!

day1w

DAY 89

The next day we went to Uedo Park to see the locals celebrating Sakura (cherry blossoms) and picnicking in the park….was magnificent….

Day2w

DAY 90

We arrived, via bullet train, in the skiing village of Nozawa Onsen. My husband doesnt think this is a very good photo of our hotel room as you cant tell that these are tatami mats on the floor! I am just going to say that we managed, we were not precious but they were bloody hard and terribly uncomfortable…thats the truth ….

Day3w

DAY 91

Out to eat in the village…. I will say that even in a small skiing village you can get amazing pizzas’ and burgers and curries, much to my childrens’ delight but on this evening we went to a Korean bbq restaurant and I love this photo because it captures the 3 offspring battling to grasp the chopsticks….

day4w

DAY 92

I only ski for half the day (OK maybe half the half- day) so I would wonder around the village while the family skiied the day away and this image just summed up the little village….

day5w1

DAY 93

We took a day off and went to see the snow monkeys and they were just amazing….they sit in geo-thermal pools, the water is really hot in these pools (like you could boil an egg)…it was hard to get a really clear shot as the steam rises off the water…all the monkeys have really pink faces…

Day6w2

DAY 94

Sunset over the Japanese Alps…

day7w

DAY 95

Some statues in a shrine in the village…

day8

DAY 96

That is my baby in the green helmet and the rest of the offspring at the bottom….and you can see the village of Nozawa Onsen below…

Day9w

DAY 97

Back in Tokyo….this was a concert in the street where this band played and sang Elvis songs in really bad English…it was the funniest thing and this guy was such a character….

day10w

DAY 98

Bird Flu had broken out in China so that is my offspring on the Tokyo metro in masks…a very large percentage of locals wear masks in Japan and we were embracing the trend….

day11w

Right I am all caught up….yay!

Week 12

The end of the school term draws near and everyone is studying for tests, trying to finish assignments and prepare (dreaded) orals. This Friday cannot be Good enough or come soon enough because I will be on my way to Tokyo with my little family. Yay, yay! Now if someone could just stall the cherry blossoms from losing their blooms, I would be most appreciative- cannot believe I missed THE CHERRY BLOSSOM BLOOM WEEKEND by one week!

The husband and offspring are very excited to be heading off skiing….and I am faking enthusiasm! Everyone passed my skill level two ski trips ago so its not so much fun! I am now analysing a ski slope map (in Japanese) to try memorise which way to turn as I get off a gondola so as not to find myself on a black run with my family. Green is my comfort zone….blue if I am on my way home.

Anyway, this was the week that was…

DAY 77

A macro of  grass seeds…wow, interesting I know…

0U2A8734ew

DAY 78

Yay Yay Yay…….and Yay again!

Braces came off today….after 19 months, felt like forever, the braces came off the teeth today and just look at those pearly whites! Here she is phoning her Dad to tell him they off….Dad was ecstatic to know that the orthodontist fees are behind him!

0U2A8769w

DAY 79

I lay down on the floor and he looked at me as if I had gone mad…..

0U2A8850w

DAY 80

This was an exhausting day spent watching the middle child at State Swimming Trials. He swims for South Coast and they came 3rd in the freestyle relay. He raced in the first race at 8h30 and the last race at 4h30….long day spent waiting, warming up, racing, warming down, eating properly and again…. I have to say that I am not a good swimming Mum…truth be told, I find it boring (there I said it). I dont know my childs best time  (PB) and I dont own a stop-watch …useless!

0U2A8862w

DAY 81

I got a new lens…a pancake 40 mm…to use for travelling and I am so impressed with how sharp it is….

0U2A8909w

DAY 82

Was up early to take the youngest to the bus for cricket and this was the reward for getting up early….. a beautiful sunrise….

0U2A8937w

DAY 83

A beautiful day on the Gold Coast means one thing….. beach time …

0U2A8950w

Will check in again when I am back from Japan xx
